oin our celebration of Sun-Earth Day 2005. Dr. Lou Mayo will be available in SpaceLink (2nd Level Exhibit) to answer your questions about the Sun and the Earth. Our rooftop observatory will be open (weather permitting) from 1 PM to 4 PM for safe, solar observing.

Company 7 will have Hydrogen Alpha and white light solar observing in their parking lot, weather permitting. They will distribute NASA Sun-Earth Day bookmarks in their showroom (14300 Cherry Lane Court, Laurel, MD 20707, ph. 301-953-2000 - open 11 am to 5 pm) and in advance of the event to local schools.
If teachers wish to use the facility and equipment on site, then they are also happy to oblige.

Since the beginning of time, man has observed and tried to understand the movements of the sun, the moon and the stars. Around the world, we have evidence of people's efforts to explore these celebrities of the sky and continue to build on what they've learned. Join us for an afternoon of activities, and presentations that feature fascinating historic sites with solar alignments that mark equinoxes and/or solstices. We will demonstrate the connections from the past to current NASA research and discoveries-highlighting the importance of the Sun across the ages. Spring Equinox Festival and the Science of the Sun
On Sunday March 20, from 11 AM - 1:30 PM educators from the Rose Center for Earth and Space will lead Sun-related activities for children of all ages: print pictures using the Sun's energy, detect UV light with bracelets, and observe the Sun through specially filtered telescopes. Activities are free with museum admission and located outside on the museum's Ross Terrace.

We are planning to have all our scopes out for the day, but we are also hoping to have some local American Indian people, from a local reservation, come onto the campus to present a cultural program in concert with our observing. The anthropology department is also interested in liaising with us on this. So it should be a good day!

A Homeschooling Family Science Day on February 2nd, 2005. The topic is going to be Sun-Earth Day and we will be using the new "Ancient Observatories, Timeless Knowledge" as our theme.

The idea is to ready the parents for the March Sun-Earth Day. The children will attend their own science workshops while the parents are in the ERC having their own presentation.

S.M.A.R.T. hosted a small group of adults and children. There was a powerpoint discussion about the Sun, seasons, eclipses, auoras, and solar storms before the webcast. We also made a sundial. Because of the rain, there was no solar observation. All activities were held in Locke Hall of Howard University.

Sun-Earth Day will be celebrated at the Schrader Environmental Center, Oglebay Park, Wheeling, West Virginia on Sunday, March 20 from 1:00pm to 9:30pm. Included are games, activities, programs, safe solar viewing with a solar scope, Sunspotters and various telescopes with solar filters from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Live NASA webcast from Chichen Itza, Mexico from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Public telescope observing session at the Schrader Center's Speidel Observatory from 7:00pm to 9:30pm(weather permitting). This Sun-Earth Day Celebration is a partnership with the MARSSB folks at the NASA sponsored Classroom of the Future located on the campus of Wheeling Jesuit University, the Benedum Planetarium and the Schrader Environmental Center, both located at Oglebay Park in Wheeling, WV
