Sun-Earth Day Presents: Eclipse, In a Different Light
IMAGE GALLERY
- Eclipse drawing by E.L. Trouvelot near Creston, Wyoming. Also known as the Rocky Mountain Eclipse. To astronomers, it was the eclipse that would let them discover the planet Vulcan, which many thought was responsible for the annoying 40” differences between Mercury’s predicted orbit and the one that measurements insisted was the true one. Maria Mitchell led a band of students from Massachusetts to Colorado to view this eclipse.
