The Land Information System (LIS) is a software framework that was developed with the objective of integrating satellite and ground-based observational data products and advanced modeling techniques to produce optimal fields of land surface states and fluxes. It is designed for high-performance terrestrial hydrology modeling and data assimilation.
The Land Information System (LIS) is a software framework that was developed with the objective of integrating satellite and ground-based observational data products and advanced modeling techniques to produce optimal fields of land surface states and fluxes. It is designed for high-performance terrestrial hydrology modeling and data assimilation. The incorporation of data from missions such as GPM, SMAP, GRACE, GRACE-FO, and SWOT is facilitated by the state-of-the-art land hydrology modeling and data assimilation capabilities of LIS. NASA, academic users, and partner agencies employ LIS in mission development, science research, and applied and operational environments. Environments such as the Global Land Data Assimilation System (GLDAS), North American Land Data Assimilation System (NLDAS), and the Global Hydro Information (GHI) are facilitated by the specific configurations of LIS. These LIS-centric configurations encompass many socially relevant applications, including drought and flood monitoring, public health, famine early warning and prediction, and water resources or agricultural management.
