Evidence for Compressive MHD Waves in the Solar Wind Near the Sun

Dr. William A. Coles
University of California, San Diego

Radio measurements of density fluctuations in the solar wind on scales of 2 to 50 km suggest strongly that these density fluctuations are driven by MHD waves, probably the Alfven wave propagating obliquely to the magnetic field. We will review the evidence and discuss the implications.
