Tixie Bay, Russia Tutorial

If you want to complete your geographic grand tour of the northern magnetic observatories, you can visit a magnetic observatory in Tixie Bay, Russia. What you will find is an archive that also offers real-time data. On the left-side, scroll down to the bottom and select the most recent date. It will create a plot in the right hand frame.

The top graph shows the H-component. The second graph gives the value of the angle between the north geographic and north magnetic pole (D). The third graph gives the vertical or Z-component. The last graph shows the changes in the entire field. Once again, a magnetic storm will appear as a large change in the readings during a span of a few hours. Additional navigation is offered above the graphs. Especially useful are the Previous Day's Data and Next Day's Data. This allows you to quickly examine several days. Be careful to look at the scale on the vertical axis + it changes.
